SKZ student laboratory with Zwick testing systems

SKZ (South German Plastics Centre) of Würzburg has opened a student laboratory. Designed to give students a glimpse into the world of plastics processing, the project was supported by sponsors from the plastics industry and by funding from the state of Bavaria.

The contact person at SKZ is Helmut Hofmann, who explains that the student laboratory allows classes to experience everyday plastics processing activity at no cost. The educational concept is based on Bayer Material Science’s ‘Baylab plastics’ (BMS, Leverkusen).
In the SKZ laboratory students learn how materials testing plays an important part in the field of research. A Zwick testing machine is available for tensile, compression and flexure tests and an Mflow extrusion plastometer for melt-index determination.
